“I make sure things don’t fall over.”
– Cole Janisch, PE, SE
A core belief of mine is no matter how complex a situation or problem seems at first glance, it can always be broken down into simple parts with simple questions. That belief has been a guiding principle throughout my life. For that reason, I like to think that, as a structural engineer – despite the complex underlying physical theories – the purpose of my career is to provide simple solutions for structural problems. To the best of my ability, I will work with you to break your problem down into simple parts – each with a simple solution.
That said, I’m a structural engineer with a passion for building all sorts of things besides buildings (pun intended). I enjoy the technical aspects of engineering, but I think the non-technical elements are what really make my day fun.
One of my passions and goals for my career is to surround myself with great people and build a team and environment where they can thrive. I believe the people you work with play a critical role in your success in life and that is undervalued too often.
Another one of my passions is building genuine relationships. I strongly believe that you can and should learn something from everyone you meet.
I didn’t know engineers or anything about engineering when I grew up; I want to change that for the next generation. I’ve tutored students regularly and visited classes to talk about engineering whenever I’ve had an opportunity to do so.
When I’m not at work, you can usually find me out with my dogs, playing billiards, or out in the woods.
My wife and I rescued a “broken” retriever – a lab/hound mix who thinks chase is more fun than fetch (my fault) – and a “pocket pit” – we don’t know what she is, but she looks like a fun-size pit bull and she loves giving kisses (also my fault). Those dogs have taught me more about life than I ever thought possible.
Billiards is my way to combine math and physics with friends and beer secretly…
Hunting is one of my biggest passions. There is so much to learn from being out in the wilderness. Learning how animals behave and trying to outsmart them in their world is one of the most difficult and rewarding challenges there is, and the lessons I’ve learned in the outdoors carry over to every aspect of my life.
If you’d like to know more about me, how we can work together, or swap hunting stories, please feel free to contact me!
